| Dutch Coastin' .// Batman La Fuga (Warner Bros. Park)
The sound of a siren breaches the serene quietness of the Spanish wasteland. No life can be found in
this deserted shoal. No houses, no villages. Nothing but silence and quietness. But than.. the air is
breached by a siren, an alarm. The sound of footsteps bouches of the concrete hallways.
We find ourselves in Arkham Asylum. Some of Gotham City's most dangerous criminals where until resently
held captive here. Until recently, for they have just escaped! It is up to Batman to get them behind
bars once more. And we get to go along..
The queueline is roughly divided into three parts. There is an outdoor part, an indoor part, and a
station queueline. The outdoor queue provides the unsuspecting visitor with some marvelous panoramic

views of Batman La Fuga. The cries of distress of the terrified visitors can be heard clearly from
here.
After this outdoor queue, you face two huge, impressive doors. The entrance to Arkham Asylum. Behind
these doors you can the porter. You will however find to porter's lounge to be empty. Look up and you
will find the porter. Hopelessly stuck to the ceiling. The siren in the background keeps on whining.
Just keep on going then. You will now face the cellblocks of Arkham Asylum, with nothing but deserted
cells. Each one of them is magnificently decorated, and the "property" of one of the Batman villains.
Where have they gone? You continue walking past empty cells, and suddenly face the recreation room.
Several of the inmates make a rather "frozen" impression.
A stairway has to conquered next, followed by a typical American queueline, which most resembles a
cattle farm. Luckily, there wasn't a queueline for miles. :) The signs which shouted the terrifying
frase "2 hours" could be pleasantly ignored.
The boardingroom itself is - in contradiction to the lavishly decorated stationbuilding - barely
themed. This is a true shame, even more because of the overkill of theming on Batman La Fuga,

considering it's a Six Flags ride though. Loading and unloading the trains is done very smoothly,
and within a matter of seconds because of the well-trained staff.
The frightfull faces of the guests show how extreme Batman had to go to get his hated enemies back
behind bars. This "Batman"-clone is a nervewrecker for the unexpecting Spanish visitor.
The train slowly climbs up the lift-hill. When you reach the top, you get a panoramic view of the
impressive B&M floorless 7-inverter Superman Atraccion de Acero. This humongous ride even
looks more horrifying at night. Slowly the train begins it decent, while your attention is still
drawn by the massive Superman coaster. You're suddenly jerked to the side, because of the banking
in the first drop. The train barely has speed at this point. But slowly and gently, the train
increases its spead. It plummets down at a raging velocity. The frightfull Spaniards try to
scream, but their longues object. De looping - the first inversion - is one big black-out. The
G-forces at this point are so intense that it's pretty hard to focus on the track ahead of you.
Before you can regain complete consciousness, a lovely grey-out presents itself. The extreme
zero-g roll provides you with some lavish airtime, before making the stars twinkle in front of
you. A third inversion doesn't really surpass the previous ones, and can be seen as an appetizer
for the most intense helix I've ever experienced. For about ten seconds, your body is subjected
to 4,5G. All the blood in your body rushes to you toes. When the train exits the helix, twinkling
stars appear once more. Then, the train plummets into oblivion once more. We fly through a trench
in the direction of a corkscrew, followed almost immediately by a second. Once more we whizz past
Arkham Asylum, and then we hit the trimbrakes. Mission accomplished.
Batman La Fuga is one of many so-called "Batman"-clones. Before I travelled to Madrid,
I heard of many fellow enthousiasts that I should direct my attention to Superman. And so I
did. :) But the thruth is that Batman La Fuga has most definately landed in my all time top 3. It
is one of the best, and most intense roller coasters I have ever been on. You never loose speed, you
woosh through the inversions. I can only tell you that Batman La Fuga is the unification of all
the things I like in a roller coaster.. well, give or take a few exceptions. :)
